Rain stops play .... almost
Despite horizontal rain and high winds dozens of St Ives youngsters braved the elements to attend a Playday at Ayr Field, St Ives, on Tuesday. The playday organised by Cornwall Neighbourhoods 4 Change was one of several play events scheduled across Penwith for the summer for local children.
Ayr Field Community Group, St Ives, are pleased to announce that their one day community festival 'Ayr Field Day' on Saturday 7th July raised over £4000 for local good causes. Committee member Frank Bowater has been busy collecting feedback from the 30 local groups represented at the day comments "We are delighted with the amount raised and hope to repeat the event next year". Many voluntary groups and charities working in the St Ives area had fundraising stalls at the event, ranging from Children's Hospice South West to St Ives Age Concern, other groups such as the St Ives Trust and Archive Study Centre used the event to promote their work and recruit volunteers. Carol Rouncefield of Morgorrows Hockey club reflects "we had a great day and raised over £200 for our club, the event was well attended and had a great atmosphere". An exhibition of photographs taken at Ayr Field Day will be on display at St Ives Library for two weeks from Tuesday.
Nursery manager Julie Cooper attended the event with some of the children from the St Ives Hi Hide Hidz Club and joked "There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing". Following the success of the Playday it was hoped that Ayr Field could become a regular venue for children's play activities in the coming months. CN4C event co-ordinator Tony Andrews commented "Ayr Field is a great local asset to for Children's play in St Ives and we look forward to working with Ayr Field Community Group on future events".
