Ayr Field Community Group, Questionaire Results

In the past months, Ayr Field Community Group has carried out a consultation with the local community on how they feel about Ayr Field, and its place on the community. The results can be downloaded below.

Background

The Executive Committee of Cornwall County Council meet to consider the Community Plan for Ayr Field on Wednesday 13th September 2006. We will then know if the wishes of St Ives people to have use of the field as an open green space will win favour or not!  The consultation results compiled by Ayr Field Community Group, and scutinised by Penwith District Council clearly demonstate that local people want and need the space. 97% of the 263 St Ives Householders questioned stated that Ayr Field, in the North Ward of the Town should be an open green space with 76% being unhappy with the amount of open green space in the town. In addition of the 170 children completing questionnaires 42% said they did not have access to a playground near where they live.

The group has undertaken a study of open green space for childrens play in St Ives and found that the provision in the town is well below national guidelines. The provision of Ayr Field would go a great way towards correcting this current shortage. Local children continue to be critised for playing in roads, carparks and the local cemetary but to date no real solutions have been suggested at Town. District and County level.
