Go Wild @ Ayr Field - Saturday 1st March 2008

Come and help plant over 500 wildflowers 11am-4pm

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came and helped with the tree-planting weekend in January. With the weather on our side, we planted around 100 trees and had a lot of fun in the process. It is great to see a few of the trees already starting to push out their first leaves of the year.

Our next event is a wildflower planting session at the Field on Saturday 1st March, from 11am until 4pm. We want to create a wildflower bed next to the trees, in order to complete the natural wildlife area along one side of the field. The wildflowers will be much less effort to plant than the trees, but to compensate we have over 500 flowers to plant compared with 100 trees! Everyone is welcome to come along and lend a hand. Please wear stout shoes or boots and gardening gloves, and bring a spade or trowel if you can.

We hope that once the wildflowers are established, they will add some colour and interest to the field through the year, as well as attracting insects and butterflies. The wildflower plants have been funded through a grant from the National Lottery's Breathing Spaces programme, with additional plants donated by ocal people. The planting will take place whatever the weather. For more information, please contact Tim Andrewes on 01736 795387

We meet at 10am on the first Saturday of each month to look after Ayr Field - join us!
