Tree Planting Weekend - January 2008
A great weekend whereby 80 local volunteers planted over 120 trees and shrubs.
The tree planting at Ayr Field is part of a wider scheme that includes the rebuilding of cornish hedges and a number of safety and access improvements. During our January tree planting weekend Artist blacksmith John Christian demonstrated the techniques he will use to create three gates for Ayr Field. During his demonstration he created six snails on his mobile forge. One was raffled on the day and Ayr Field Community Group are offering the remaining five snails for adoption to raise funds for Ayr Field. Each snail priced at £25 comes with a birth certificate and would make a perfect hassle free pet. The snails can be viewed and purchased from Fore Street Deli, St Ives. The sale of each snail will buy 10m² of turf for the field.

Helping hands helped plant over 500 wildflowers - March 2008
A big THANK YOU to everyone who came and helped with the tree-planting weekend in January. With the weather on our side, we planted around 100 trees and had a lot of fun in the process. It is great to see a few of the trees already starting to push out their first leaves of the year.
The next event was the wildflower planting session at the Field on Saturday 1st March, from 11.00am until 4.00pm. We wanted to create a wildflower bed next to the trees, in order to complete the natural wildlife area along one side of the field. The wildflowers were much less effort to plant than the trees, but we compensated by planting over 500 flowers compared with the 100 trees! It was a great time had by all and we wish to thank everyone who lent a helping hand.
We hope that once the wildflowers are established, they will add some colour and interest to the field through the year, as well as attracting insects and butterflies. The wildflower plants were been funded through a grant from the National Lottery's Breathing Spaces programme, with additional plants donated by local people.
