Christmas Comes Early for St. Ives Residents

13th December 2007

Local residents are today celebrating the successful result of a year-long campaign in St Ives. The celebration has been caused by the news of Cornwall County Council’s decision to offer Ayr Field to the community as a green open space in partnership with Penwith District Council.

Ayr Field Community Group was formed in December 2005 to protect the field from development and create an informal recreation area for the community to enjoy. The site is owned by Cornwall County Council, who needed to be convinced of the case against its sale or use as a car park.

The group mounted an extensive and energetic campaign to gather evidence in support of its cause. New plans were drawn up and accepted.
